Popular Debt Solutions

Debt Management Plan (DMP)

A debt management plan (DMP) is an informal way to repay your creditors by making a single, affordable payment every month.

Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA)

An individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) is a legal agreement between you and your creditors whereby you only pay what you can afford towards your debts.

If your debt has reached an unmanageable level, bankruptcy is one way of managing it, especially if you are in no position to pay off your debts in a reasonable time frame.

Debt Relief Order

Suited for those with few assets and little disposable income, a debt relief order (DRO) could be your answer if you have debts under £20,000 and you have assets totalling under £1,000. Your debts will normally be cleared after 12 months, with any outstanding debt written off.

Debt Arrangement Scheme

Scotland Only
A debt arrangement scheme (DAS) allows you to repay your debts over a maximum of ten years. Only available to residents of Scotland, it sees interest and charges frozen. You won’t have anything written off, however you will be given some breathing room in order to repay your debts.

Protected Trust Deed (PTD)

Scotland Only
Only for resident of Scotland, a protected trust deed (PTD) is similar to an IVA in that it is a legally-binding agreement between you and your creditors, whereby you make one, affordable monthly payment.

Scotland Only
Sequestration is the equivalent of bankruptcy for Scottish residents. It was created for those who are unlikely to repay their debts in a realistic time frame. You may be eligible if you have debts totalling £3,000 or more, and you could be discharged in as little 12 months.
